Morning After

Morning After

I walked this morning by the shore
Across the silver sand,
Where Jean and I the night before
Had wandered hand in hand.

Our footprints had been washed away
The sand lay clean and bare,
But never can be washed away
What passed between us there.

Last night the moon danced on the sea
A chance too good to miss,
I asked her then to marry me
She answered with a kiss.

This morning as the gentle waves
Caress the sandy shore,
This happy heart she now enslaves
Is hers forever more.

Originally from Guernsey, but now living in Sussex, UK, I started writing poems and song lyrics when I was 16 or 17. I celebrated my 70th birthday last year, and am hoping that I've improved a little during the years between. Been published and also broadcast on local radio. Would love to be rich just so that I could visit Canada more often.
