Missing Pip

Missing Pip

He sniffs gently at the door to wake me by seven.
I used to moan, but for nine years I did not mind.
A smile for his ham, it was his bit of Heaven.
It was like he knew I would always be kind.

Each year goes by with songs and games.
Squeaky dog throws and walks each day.
He started sitting up and had trouble getting down.
Learning words and pricking up ears to names.

Like an old man now propping up the sofa,
but just a memory sits there now.
I will always miss you Pip you know.
A loyal friend until the very end.
