Lost Love…..
Lost love….
Oh how I loved that girl of mine,
Everything about her was so fine.
But I was young, a lad of just seventeen,
Didn’t know what a deep love could mean.
I wanted to be out with my mates,
I often didn’t turn up for our dates.
I didn’t know how much I would hurt,
Until she left me, for a boy called Bert.
In front of my mates I put on a brave face,
Said I couldn’t care less in any case!
Months later I still loved her very much,
So I did my best to get back in touch.
I was too late, she was engaged, soon to be wed,
I admit, I cried deeply, that night when I went to bed.
I went away from home, worked and lived overseas,
But I still hurt, when would I ever feel better, pleas
Many years and decades slowly went by,
I still thought of her, with a heavy sigh.
I never met another who could take her place,
I just couldn’t forget her beautiful kind face.
I did my best to live a full and happy life,
But remained single, never had me a wife.
I retired from work a sad lonely man,
I had just to find her, see her if I can.
I went home, to care for my mom and dad,
Being back here made me even more sad.
I found out where she lived and often drove past,
Looking and longing to see her face at last.
I finally saw her, waiting at the local bank
She didn’t know me, looked at me blank.
I told who I was, she was so surprised,
She looked at me with a smile in her eyes.
We went for a coffee, so we could talk some more,
I knew I still loved her, forever and so much more.
I told her how I felt, about the regret I had,
For letting her go, when I was just a lad.
She was very happy, been wed for 55 years,
She was sad for me, her eyes bright with tears.
I knew that day I had to finally walk away,
I’d had my chance, and had blown it away.
