Little Brown Book

Little Brown Book

I have a treasure, very old
My mother gave to me
A book that never could be sold
It’s message always free

It is no gold-encrusted tome
No ancient, secret sign
Just honest Christian thoughts and words
To guide us on to paths divine

Each time I look within its boards
There’s always something new
Some trifle never thought about
Always succinct and true.

And Mother dear would always heed
The wise words written there
And realised to each of us
God giveth our due share.

On those pages, sweet and dear
It all is told so truthfully
Within that precious little book
My Mother gave to me.

Originally from Guernsey, but now living in Sussex, UK, I started writing poems and song lyrics when I was 16 or 17. I celebrated my 70th birthday last year, and am hoping that I've improved a little during the years between. Been published and also broadcast on local radio. Would love to be rich just so that I could visit Canada more often.
