Festive Fat

Festive Fat

These last months I have watched my weight
And walked the dog that extra mile
Just weighed myself and I have lost
Almost two stone but gained a smile.

But I’m full of foreboding now
The dreaded time is almost here
When we go wild and stuff ourselves
With turkey, mince, and Christmas cheer.

There’s Christmas pudding, Christmas Cake,
Brandy, Chestnuts, Stollen, figs
Chocolates by the lorry load
It’s just like feeding swill to Pigs.

This year I must be resolute
Control myself, eat just a peck
I’m sure I can, it’s not that hard…
Oh, who am I kidding…what the heck!

Originally from Guernsey, but now living in Sussex, UK, I started writing poems and song lyrics when I was 16 or 17. I celebrated my 70th birthday last year, and am hoping that I've improved a little during the years between. Been published and also broadcast on local radio. Would love to be rich just so that I could visit Canada more often.
