Family

Family

I’ve had no children of my own
But don’t be sad for me
I’m growing old yet crowded by
Young folk for company.

Before I wed there came along
Nieces and Nephs galore
And later on there came a batch
Of half a dozen more

I lost my first Love, but then found
My Second, last for me
And she brought me another bunch
of lovely family.

Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, Sons,
Daughters, Grandkids, Greatkids too
They made me smile and kept me young,
But sometimes oh, so tired, too

I don’t see all as often as
I’d like to, but always they
Are in my mind and just the thought
Of them lights up my day.

Originally from Guernsey, but now living in Sussex, UK, I started writing poems and song lyrics when I was 16 or 17. I celebrated my 70th birthday last year, and am hoping that I've improved a little during the years between. Been published and also broadcast on local radio. Would love to be rich just so that I could visit Canada more often.
