Daydreamer

Daydreamer

In a dingy, cluttered little shop
My eyes came to a sudden stop
On an exquisite old time machine
It was painted red, gold and green

A whimsy overtook my thoughts
Of becoming a timelord astronaut
Filled with excitement I asked the price
The wizened old man seemed very nice

“Give it a try” he smilingly said
I stepped inside, filled with dread
I quickly learned to use the gears
Putting aside all of my fears

Where should I go, how far away?
A trip along the galactic highway?
Slowly and silently I shifted in time
Away from this troubled world of mine

I found a planet of peace and love
With forests, seas and a moon above
How I’d like to stay here forever
Lying in this field of purple heather

Completely at peace, without a care
I’m thinking of permanantly moving there
Standing outside the cluttered shop
I came back to earth with a sudden plop.

“Daydreaming again?” my mother said
“Haven’t you forgotten to buy the bread?”
