Christmas from our past…..
A Christmas from our past …
She is still awake this little child,
Hair awry and eyes a little wild.
“I must stay awake” she says to herself,
“I want to see Santa, or at least an elf”
“I know in creeps in, when I’m asleep,
tonight I will be awake and have a peep”
Her eyes start to close, she opens them wide,
Sleep will not catch her, nor Teddy at her side.
The next thing she knows morning is back,
There stand her presents, in a Christmas sack.
How does Santa do it, how can he tell when I’m asleep.
As she reaches for the sack, hands digging in deep.
Presents tumble out, over the bed and floor,
Which one to open, there are so many more.
Her parents come in with tea and toast,
She can smell the cooking of the turkey roast.
All is happy and well her in innocent life,
Downstairs by the tree, is a brand new bike.
I wish I could be that excited child again,
The magic of Christmas is no longer the same.
I wish all children, wherever they may be,
A happy Christmas, full of kindness and love.
Chocolates, sweets, presents galore,
Friends and relatives knocking on the door.
My family are grown, all fled the nest,
So time for me to sit and have a rest.
Money donated to a homeless charity,
We don’t need any presents, him and me.
I wish you all a happy Christmas,
A healthy New year.
Now let’s raise a glass,
And give a cheer.
