Do you feel the economy is getting better?

image

The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have said their economic strategy is working as the latest statistics show that household incomes are rising.

At the end of 2014 disposable incomes showed an increase of 1.9% at the end of 2014 verses a year earlier and are 0.2% higher than when the Conservative/Liberal alliance were elected in May 2010.

The chancellor George Osborne said “it was part of a “hat-trick” of good economic news, allied to stronger GDP growth”

But Labour said that working families were still “struggling” as average incomes were being squeezed.

Who do you believe? Is the economy finally recovering? How do you feel and what’s your view?

All the stats say that the economy is improving but this will clearly take time to benefit everyone in the country. Most business leaders think that Miliband and Balls would be a disaster for the economy - after all they led us into the depths of recession last time around. Miliband has never had a real job so how could anyone trust him to understand business and the economy.

I have not had pay rise for the last 5 years , now my employer is crying about the rise in min wage of 20p in October.
Is there any hope for us having to try and survive in this pittence.
We are forced to accept these conditions after being made redundant at 58. With retirement ages going up there are going to be more and more people like me forced to work 12 hour shifts just to try and survive.
Retirement should be a time to enjoy life not a chore to survive.
I am looking forward to mine but also dreading it.
What else can our governments throw at us hard working individuals.

I have a state pension and private one but find I can no longer save as I used to. And I am having to draw out my savings more and more. And they won't last forever.

i cannot believe how short our memories appear to be, four years ago when labour handed over power the country was virtually bankrupt, the first thing they will do when they get back is borrow, so all the cuts, penny pinching, and sacrifices of the last four years will have been in vain.

I am a Senior Citizen/Pensioner I am not 'well off'. Those that are have saved and earned it and should not be penalised for that. Others have frittered away any money they may have had and now depend on hand-outs.
We keep hearing about how much the price of food has gone down - where is this happening??? Not near me I can assure you. Also, if you are lucky enough to go out for a meal in a restaurant or pub the prices are going up and up. I am not going any more, it is daylight robbery!
Personally I think Ed Milliband deserves at shot at governing the country - he can't do any worse than Cameron - and if Farage gets in I will emigrate! That is - if I can afford to 🙂 ha ha.

I don't think it is since I have been on a wage freeze for three years, hopefully this changes at end of this year and all outgoings appear to be rising, I know a lot of people are worse off and changes need to be made but they appear to be targeting the wrong people both on benefits and working, a time for change has arrived.

Get very sick of people talking about well off pensioners. Some may be well of but for many the struggle goes on. Having taken time off work to make sure my children were well looked after etc my pension is very little but not low enough to get benefits all those nice free dental treatments etc that those who have only just landed on our shores are handed. Yes it's still them and us and the gap is getting bigger, all those bankers and politicians giving themselves pay rises and bonuses.

It all depends on your location and what your background is. Obviously the 'wealthy' South East of the country have done well, don't they always?, however the UK consists of more than this area and the select few that live there. There are areas of this country that are struggling and are on their knees, with still high unemployment, lack of investment, lack of opportunities, increased foodbank use,etc.. and if the Coalition really do believe that UK plc is booming, unfortunately not everyone is feeling the supposed benefits. There are a whole generation of mainly young people who will never be able to afford to buy their own home, kids going to school without food inside them, parents skipping meals to feed their own kids, working families having to use food banks, I could go on. It must be said that on paper the economy appears to be growing, and if this is the case then the Coalition should get some credit, but not everyone in this country is seeing this in their daily life. There used to be 2 classes of people in this country, the 'haves' and the 'have nots', it should be increased to now include the 'have lots' and the 'believe they haves', as a select few are doing really well but a lot of people mistakenly 'believe' they are doing well.

Its easy to complain about the economy, but I don't think we know how lucky we are. I have just watched a TV program on Spain - House prices halved, 3.5 million empty homes, hundreds of thousands of business have closed, there is no work and no prospects.

It might not be great on a zero hours contract, but its work and a hell of a lot better than no work.

We had a very narrow escape.

I have seen a lot of governments in my time. We need to get private individuals and companies incentivised and stop the meddling of the nanny state. Its the private companies and entrepreneurs like Richard Branson who create wealth and jobs. Its still far far too bureaucratic starting a business in Blighty. Gbis like a family it cannot keep on borrowing money...it needs to get working and fast! I feel things are getting slowly more positive.

I think the UK is getting better gradually...more in employment than ever before and there seems to be a new optimism. All the independant data is saying UK Limited is getting back on track. Lowest unemployed for a long time. Its doing much much better than the other main economies in the EU. Let keep the positive economy going!

where is this 'more employment than ever before'? and what 'independant data? And no we are not doing much better than the other main economies in the EU - we were next lowest to Greece, but they left.
