My Style

My Style

“Are you a poet?” they ask of me
I say “No, I’m a writer of rhyme,
Poets are weavers of magical dreams
Much better than efforts of mine

I write of everyday, normal things
That the average man would know
Poets write erudite, complex verse
That would baffle the ordinary Joe.

But each to their own, and each must do
Whatever it is floats their boat’
I’ll keep on writing my everyday verse
Aimed at the normal bloke.

But I still read the classical writers
Wondering if I could write as they do
But I feel more at home with less Drama
And it’s better I keep it true.

Originally from Guernsey, but now living in Sussex, UK, I started writing poems and song lyrics when I was 16 or 17. I celebrated my 70th birthday last year, and am hoping that I've improved a little during the years between. Been published and also broadcast on local radio. Would love to be rich just so that I could visit Canada more often.
