Take it Home

Take it Home

Mum  and  Dad  and  all  the  kids
And  picnic basket  winging
Far  away  from  city  sounds
To  fields  where  birds  were  singing

They  took  along  some  pizzas
And  some  take-away boxes
Drinks  in  plastic  and  in  cans
With  scraps to  feed  the  foxes

Oh,  what  a  fine  time  they  all  had
“Awesome”  they were crying.
Then  left  for  home  much  lighter  now
All their rubbish lying.

Please  come,  enjoy  the  rural  scene
The  flowers  and  fresh  air
But  please  take  all  your  rubbish  home
To dump it isn’t fair.

Originally from Guernsey, but now living in Sussex, UK, I started writing poems and song lyrics when I was 16 or 17. I celebrated my 70th birthday last year, and am hoping that I've improved a little during the years between. Been published and also broadcast on local radio. Would love to be rich just so that I could visit Canada more often.
