Snowdrops
Snowdrops
My feet are in the freezing earth,
My head is in the air
It’s cold, so cold, but something says
That warmth is somewhere there.
Below the ground I stayed asleep
Throughout the winter’s lease,
Till waking stirrings told me
Time for repose to cease.
On and up I struggled
Towards a welcome sky,
Now in the air my snowy head
Nods as the wind goes by.
Grateful I turn towards the sun,
Blackbird and robin sing,
My dancing partners celebrate,
We’re here to welcome Spring.
