Goggle Box

Goggle Box

When I was a kid many moons ago,
just a scruffy young kid in knee socks
We wanted a telly but could only afford
a coin in the slot goggle box.

So we all sat there gathered around it
and wondered at sound and at sight,
a wonderful end to the evening
was the thriller on Saturday night.

Well, we never did find out whodunnit
and we never knew how it was done
because just as we got to the good bit……
Oh! Flamin Hell the bobs gone!!

And then a mad scramble through pockets
an expedition down the side of each chair,
we searched every nook every cranny
in the hope that a shilling lay there.

So we never found out whodunnit
and we never knew how it was done
but we always made sure we had shillings
when the Saturday night thriller came on.
