Autumn

Autumn

The  summer’s  heat  has  come  and  gone
Now  misty  mornings  hide
The  lowlands  as  I  look  below
From  on  the  Valley side
Dew decorated  spiders  webs
Deck  bushes  all  around
And  if  you  listen  in  the  dark
You’ll  hear  the  eerie  sound
Of  Tawny  Owls  before  the  dawn
Through soft mists all around.

I  wonder then  beneath  the trees
Then  shower  in  the  gentle  fall
Of  Yellow,  Green  and  Red  and  Brown
And  think  that  I’m  in  Heaven’s  Hall
I  climb  the  hillside  and  I  stand
Look  below  and  feel the  thrill
As  Autumn  winds  around  me  blow
I  glory  in the fresh, clean chill.
Soon  Winter  will  bring  Ice  and  snow
And  we’ll  wish  Autumn  was  here  still

Originally from Guernsey, but now living in Sussex, UK, I started writing poems and song lyrics when I was 16 or 17. I celebrated my 70th birthday last year, and am hoping that I've improved a little during the years between. Been published and also broadcast on local radio. Would love to be rich just so that I could visit Canada more often.
