Getting Old Blues

Getting Old Blues

Oh, what I’d give for the days when I
Didn’t groan every time I stood up.
When I could remember just what I came for
While scratching my head in the shop.

When I didn’t need to make lists all the time
To make sure that I wouldn’t forget
Then having to turn the house upside down
For that list that is missing yet

Please bring back the days when I sported
And ran like a hare ’round the track
When all of my muscles were supple
And nothing was wrong with my back.

But I shouldn’t complain, because, after all
I’d sooner have lived that not known Life at all.

Originally from Guernsey, but now living in Sussex, UK, I started writing poems and song lyrics when I was 16 or 17. I celebrated my 70th birthday last year, and am hoping that I've improved a little during the years between. Been published and also broadcast on local radio. Would love to be rich just so that I could visit Canada more often.
