Thought for the Day!

I was looking at the notice-board in the local primary school, where I go to listen to the children read, and saw the following notice. Before you speak - THINK: T = is it true? H = is it helpful? I = is it inspiring? N = is it necessary? K = is it kind? How pleasant our world would be if we could all live up to these standards! 🙂 I have to say that the children are some of the nicest, politest children I know and the school got an "Outstanding" in their latest Ofsted report.

Well, Lochinvar - I had to Google tawse! It sounds like a medieval instrument of torture - and probably felt like it! I wonder if Elizabeth flirted to put you off your work 🙂 but at least you, no doubt, were able to keep the book whereas she probably had to return the silver cup for the next year's winner.

Sadly, that seems to be true, Lionel. I remember being able to leave coats, outdoor shoes, gym kit etc hanging on a cloakroom peg and they stayed there. These days in secondary schools, the children have to carry all their stuff round with them from class to class. Although I wouldn't say that I feared my teachers, I certainly had a healthy respect for them! My granddaughter couldn't believe that when I was at primary school in the late 1950s, we had a headmaster who used to hit pupils across the palm of the hand with a ruler. Nowadays they would be charged with assault!
