All You Need

All You Need

The finer, richer things in Life
He strived for years to get hold of
He overlooked the simple truth
That all you really need is love
His striving brought no happiness
Just worry, stress and loneliness.

He gained the wealth and power he craved
But friendships couldn’t take the strain
He guarded power, wealth he saved
And people were just used for gain
For in his heart was no thought of
The truth that all you need is love.

He is so very different now
His wealth is lost, his pride is dead
But friends he has, at last somehow
It seems his life is richly spread
For all you need is love to feel
The happiness that’s true and real.

Originally from Guernsey, but now living in Sussex, UK, I started writing poems and song lyrics when I was 16 or 17. I celebrated my 70th birthday last year, and am hoping that I've improved a little during the years between. Been published and also broadcast on local radio. Would love to be rich just so that I could visit Canada more often.
