5 Ways to Get Ready for Spring Cycling
Calling all fair weather cyclists! Spring has sprung so what better time for a two-wheeled adventure? We’ve rounded up 5 of the best bits of encouragement to get you out ‘on yer bike!’ again.
- Show your bike some love
If your bike’s been sat unloved in the shed or garden all winter, it probably needs a bit of TLC. Get it out, give it a scrub down, check your brakes and pump up your tyres.
- Pick a route
A common reason for not getting on your bike is not knowing where to go. If you don’t have a destination in mind, it can be all too easy to take the same route around your home time and time again before putting it off altogether. Give yourself an incentive, such as cycling through a new area and stopping off at a café en route. Tap your region into a cycle route planner to get started.
- Set yourself a goal
You don’t have to train for the Tour de France or compete in a triathlon but setting yourself a goal makes it so much easier to get stuck in. Make a target of three miles, then build up your mileage slowly or try new destinations and terrains. If you successfully nurture a love for cycling, why not sign up for something more adventurous like a race or take your bike on holiday for a weekend?
- Join a cycling club or guided bike ride
You may find cycling more enjoyable if you do it with friends, and joining a cycling club is a great way to get passionate about cycling and make new friends at the same time. Guided bike rides also give you more inspiration whether you’re building your confidence or are looking for a challenge. Find a free guided bike ride near you.
- Treat yourself
Give yourself a reason to get back in the saddle by treating yourself to some chic cycling gear – whether it’s a new jacket, bike bag, comfy seat or even a new bike! If your bike’s seen better days, consider whether a new one would incentivise you to get active and stay active.
