What kind of birds have you seen in your garden today?

The RSPB had their annual Bird Watch Survey last week-end and we have 6 assorted bird feeders set up in our garden. We really enjoyed looking at all of the birds coming into our garden and identifying them although it was a bit hard to keep track as they fly in and out so swiftly! We have loads of Blue tits, Coal tits, Great tits and also the lovely Long-tailed tits. Today I spotted a small flock of Long-tailed tits which seem to be enjoying the suet ball feeders. They seem to make an appearance during the winter months and then disappear.

Today we had a male and female pheasant in our garden.
The male has such beautiful plumage and it is a privilege and delight to have such visitors. (and all of the other birds)

You are all lucky to have different birds in your gardens I live on the south coast and just have seagulls if any small birds do appear they are chased away by the seagull.

Long-tailed tits are so pretty, I feel we are so blessed with nature and all of the lovely things to look at. I hope you see more than pigeons today.

Our bird count numbers were definitely down this year, but we expected that due to the weather conditions this winter. We still have blackcaps though.....they seem to visit us each January for a couple of months. We have spotted two males and one female. Most birds seem to be getting 'twiterpated' early, I think? Blue tits, robins, house sparrows and black birds are all playing 'kiss/ chase'

Our bird count surprisingly was up this year. We have installed a squirrel proof feeder for the sunflower seed hearts that the tits seem to love. They are flitting in and out of the surrounding cage constantly. I thought I saw a blackcap once but that was a few years ago. Sadly we have not had a house sparrow for years now. We also used to get loads of starlings but have not had any so far this year. We have quite a number of nuthatches and dunnocks around and a couple of them made it onto the bird watch list.
