Just joined so I'm introducing myself.
Watch this postI will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.
I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?
I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!
I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?
I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

I live in South Wales and like you with the daughters have a son who doesn't bother much and a husband whose only interest is sitting in front of the TV nursing the cat sometimes I feel as if I have a ninety five year old. Anyway must stop complaining. Couple of ideas why not join your local U3A and if there isn't one try and get one going. You say you were at University so why not offer to give talks to WI and other social groups, I give talks on Domestic Superstition, Crystal Healing and History of Personal Names and have made friends with members . Another avenue is to try some free courses from Future Learn, just type Future Learn on your web browser and have a look at what is on offer. Travelling with Saga is great as there are always other single people on trips and you can team up and make friends with them I know I've done it Good Luck.
Welcome to the site. You don't say if you need to carry on working but if you do, then in my opinion you need to think very carefully about where you move to. No matter what anyone tries to tell you, we live in an ageist society and getting a job at 62 might not be easy. If your sons live 100 miles away either side of you, would it be better to stay where you are and keep the job you are in or do you envisage moving nearer to one of them? You say that you have to sell your house - would it be possible after selling it to rent somewhere for 6 months so that you can catch your breath and start trawling through the property websites. Don't be too rigid in your list of "wants" and "must haves" because what might suit you now, might not be suitable in 20 years time. When I had to leave the village I had lived in for nearly 10 years, I was heartbroken, but I rented a flat for 6 months, haunted the Rightmove and Zoopla websites and eventually decided that although I didn't like living in a flat because I wanted my own bit of garden, I did actually like living on one level so I bought a little bungalow - something I would never have considered before my sojourn in the flat. Down-sizing was difficult - amazing how much stuff you can accumulate over the years but I'm more or less organised, can whizz round the housework in a few hours and have my small garden to potter in. If everything feels too much of a big decision to make, talk with your family and friends and put things on hold until Spring arrives with sunshine and lighter nights. Good luck!
I'm 66 and retired from my many jobs so we have that in common I'm recently widowed so wanting to branch out and make new friends I live in North Yorkshire like short walks, cycling, not too far, I have arthritis in my hips love to coffee lunch evneryone is always busy with there own lives and don't understand how difficult it can be to make new friends when your older and on your own look forward to chatting with you

I'm a 66 years old, have a body that feels at the moment 85years. but a brain that still feel's 21.
Maybe i should retract the 21 and say a brain around 40.
Anyway my name is John, my interest include music of all kinds and I play the guitar & keyboard very badly I may add.
I Also enjoy travel especially to Portugal. and finally love watching football and playing golf.

Welcome to the site - I don't know who or why someone gave you a "thumbs down" - how rude!!! I gave you a "thumbs up" so have cancelled it out :-). I've found that by looking at "Latest Posts" or "Latest Subjects" I can follow the trends and keep up with what's going on.

30mins away from Castle Donnington.....ummmm....very first time I drove a car.....friends Sprite......was around that track....that was when it was always open and the pubs closed at 10.30pm in Derby but 11.00pm in Nottingham.... .are you near to Leics.,Notts or Derby....some great pubs around that area.....No, not nostalgia as such .....but haven't been back for a while......I have two nieces (1madder than the other)but no other family in the uk...
I am a retired Chef married and with family who have now flew the nest so we are free to persue our passion and hobby for us both which is traveling around Scotland and the Hebrides with our two Border Terrier dogs photographing birds and wildlife with some beautiful Hebridien landscapes.

I see you're heavily into computer games - well it probably won't come as a surprise to hear that my gaming time is spent bike racing. Oh yes, I also play golf against Tiger Woods two or three times a week - on the PS3!!
I see you enjoy discussing Drake's Equation - much to my shame I had to 'google it'! Intriguing but probably wasted on me - a discussion that would pass way above my head.

it would be interesting for you to start a forum on narrow boat life, I would be really keen to hear about this.
74 years done and more to do hopefully, i have spent 14 years constructing a solar system on my bungalow, because the back of my property faces south.
i also have a narrow boat, the wife and myself use it on our local rivers and she is Captain.
I am looking for company in my area to make friends with,i am now 69 and ran my own business for about 30 years..
I enjoy walking around the cliffs in my area and would like some company,if you live nearby please let me know..kind regards Dave..
I joined last year but not used to the site yet.
I am 59 and unemployed for over 4 years .My husband works long hours.
I left school with no qualifications due to the death of a parent but this was never an issue in the past. My CV has huge gaps in it due to unemployment and child care and I am unable to obtain any references.. I have applied for for numerous jobs but agencies will not take me on their books. I simply cannot find work and have over 6 years until retirement.
I spend hours alone in the house with no one to see or talk to.. Most of my friends are either working or retired but busy with commitments such as looking after grand children or plain "busy" (some are rude and criticise me whenever I phone them and never phone me)
Hopefully I will find work and get out more when I get free travel at 60.
I would love to find silver surfers in the same position to keep in touch with.
