Christmas became a rather sad time for us 15 years ago when our son was not allowed to see his three year old daughter, year after year it was the same, over time he blanked the Christmas period out as did we. He would laugh when our granddaughter made fun calling him Scrooge. He started to make December 21st (Winter Solstice) his time for celebrating with his beloved daughter now nearly 18.
Getting away to some extent can be good but at this time of year, meals out, renting cottages, are all usually for extortionate rates, is it worth it? Best plan and look forward to a nice little break somewhere in January. Personally we prefer the comfort of our own home but treat Christmas day like any other, often with a walk along the beach. What I would like to do is invite anyone on their own to join us for some warmth, food and company. Loneliness, the worst of experiences for anyone.
There are many 'pet friendly' (sic) hotels in the UK and I would definitely go for it, there is nothing like a bit of pampering 🙂
