Normally go by the name Sandgrounder, and I have been retired for a while now, and like to do as much travelling around the country as I can. Sadly since the Pandemic, have not done as much as I used to. I'm a member of both the National Trust and English heritage, so like to spend my time visiting their properties all around the country. Currently I live in Northamptonshire, which is central for traveling. I'll stop her for now and add more later.

Nice to make your acquaintance, I lived in Staffordshire but relocated to the USA many years ago, I miss the old history of England, like you I used to travel a lot, but the Pandemic stopped all that.
Hoping to start back up again this year.

Have some friends who live just outside of Stafford, in a little village called Haughton. Managed to call in and see them on my way back from Cheshire last August. Have only just joined Silversurfers this past week, so give me a while to find my way around the site. In the meantime feel free to message me any time.

I'm new here too, and still trying to work my way around the site.
What do you enjoy doing? Hobbies etc

Hello. I haven't been on this site for quite a while, hence the late reply. Perhaps you are not even around any more!
It was the National Trust and English Heritage membership that caught my eye as I love visiting stately homes and castles. I love History, and am researching my family history.

Thank You, don't care for soaps or quiz shows but I love dogs, and also have pond fish, after losing our last 2 dogs within 6 months of each other, we decided no more, too heartbreaking. What do you like to do for fun?

Hi LissaJ

How lovely to hear from someone - so welcome at this ungodly hour on a Sunday morning with a storm heading our way - could just scupper the planned walk. Time for a Plan B methinks.

Where are you from originally in the UK and how come you landed up on the other side of the pond? I live in NE England - Newcastle upon Tyne.

Sorry to read of your widowhood. It must be terribly difficult, although they do say you have to experience in order to fully understand and it's not a situation life has thrown at me. I've been divorced for decades. Tried it once, but never felt any great need to repeat it. Ah! perhaps another of life's opportunities blown to the wind.

Anyway, hope your day is a good one. What's the weather doing in your neck of the woods? After all, isn't a discussion about the weather, or rushing off to make innumerable cups of tea a British failing?

Regards

Eve

Many thanks Terry for your response and welcome. Just generally feeling my way around the site (not at all technically minded). Decades (eons) ago, I would leave the room as soon as I heard the theme tune to BBC's "Tomorrow's World". You're probably far too young to remember.

Wind has dropped some, but I gather we're in for another one. Anything other than a gentle breeze on a red hot summer's evening (avec gin and tonic) is just unnecessary. I was hoping for a good night's sleep tonight without lying awake at 3am anticipating a ridge tile scuttling off and doing some serious damage to a neighbour's vehicle! Neither of which transpired. As my dear old gran would have said "never trouble trouble, 'til trouble troubles you".

Hope life is good down Wigan way.

Regards
Eve

Sorry I haven't got back to you before now,
I was Born In Newcastle Under Lyme, moved with parents to Wiltshire and Devon then I lived in South Shields for a couple of years as a teen, moved to Hartlepool where I met and married my husband, then a job took us to Leek in Staffordshire where we stayed until moving to the US, we came here as my husband was offered a job too good to refuse!!!! I am in North Carolina, where the summers are hot but the winters can be very cold,
We have way more rain than usual, but luckily no snow as of yet, I just want to get February over with, then should be on the road to warmer weather
