You are Here
My husband was recently diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia which is the second most common form of dementia in the UK. I have written this poem to tell a little more of our story. I am publishing it with my husband’s consent.
You were here…
Funny, witty, charming,
Fearless, thoughtful, disarming,
You ordered your pills, you paid your bills,
You loved a long chat, you found your own hat
We saw distant places, you carried the cases,
You showed that you cared, our workload was shared
You were here
You are still here…
Funny, muddled, fretful,
Distracted, anxious, forgetful,
I order your pills, I pay all the bills
We have a slow chat while I search for your hat,
I drive you to places, help recognise faces,
There is less we can share, but I know that you care
You are still here
