Why We Remember Them
Why We Remember Them
I see a field of poppies,
As I go walking by,
I am overwhelmed with sadness
And I begin to cry.
I think of all the lives,
That have laid down for me,
So I have a voice,
And so that I am free.
It’s a shame that we have to remember,
It’s a shame they had to die
It’s a shame there was so much sacrifice,
Like raindrops from the sky.
They stood shoulder to shoulder,
They helped save friend from foe,
Why they were fighting,
Many did not know.
They fought for their country,
They fought for their wives
They believed that it was justified,
And worth laying down their lives.
So we should honour them,
We should not forget,
The great gift that they gave us
And the example that they set.
