White Horses

There was a young girl called Cassie-Ann and she adored horses with a passion! It was her dream to ride a white horse on a beach and into the sea!

She had a kind heart and a kindred spirit with all animals, but horses knew there was something more special within this little girl!

Cassie-Ann was going to be ten years old on her birthday, which was only 11 days away, she so wished her dream would come true, but she knew her family were struggling and on a budget she sighed, and thought one day I will get to do it!

Her older brother Connor just kept on teasing her about it, and it got so out of hand the one day that Cassie was so upset and ran to her room crying!

Their mum, Jane heard the commotion while she was in the garden; she shook her head as she knew what it would be about! She went inside and spoke to Connor “You are 3 years older than your sister, so you should know better than to tease her like this” Connor, then apologised to his mum and went to his sisters room which was on the ground floor, as he wanted to say sorry to her! He kept knocking on the door but got no answer, he shouted down to his mum, “Mum she’s ignoring me and won’t answer!”

So Jane went to try her door also “What are you two like, I have very little time as it is!”

She tried the door, and found it was locked, which was unusual as Cassie had never done that before, so Jane panicked and went into her bedroom as it had an adjoining door which was also on the ground floor, that leads into Cassie’ room!

Fortunately that was open, but, so was the window leading onto the rear garden of the chalet style bungalow!

Cassie had taken her special back pack with her and her mobile phone! Jane said “At least she has some sense!” She went on to phone Cassie’s mobile but it went straight to answer phone!

Connor said “I bet she has gone to her favourite place!” “Yes, that is more than likely” Jane replied.

So they both set of to the local riding stables as that was her favourite place of all, when she ever felt down!

When they got there they could see her favourite horse wasn’t in his stable, so they asked the stable manager if he knew where she had gone, and he knew and told them, and offered to drive them to where he knew she would be!

They ended up at a local field where there was a lovely brook running between the fields, which led down to the sea! The meadow covered with clover grass and buttercups and all the lovely wild flowers to the season! Cassie was there, and sat under her favourite tree with her horse he was a gentle giant, and would only let his owner and Cassie ride him, he was a Welsh cob called Freddy!

She had took food for both of them in case she didn’t go back home! They all sat down and talked things through, at the end they all had a group hug which was always initiated by Cassie!

They agreed to let Cassie ride Freddy back to the stables, but had her backpack and they all went back to the stables!

That night they all went home happier than they had woke up on the start of the day!

What Cassie didn’t know, was that, whilst they were in the car going to fetch her back, they spoke with Richard who owned the stables about Cassie’s dream! He said yes, as she had spoken on many occasions about this to him and her friends! So they organized this for her birthday as a surprise!

It was a 3 days to Cassie’s birthday, and she was extra hyper as per usual, as she had, had a fantastic few days with her family and what was even better was, her father Ian had returned home from one of his many trips abroad which was his job, but he always tried to be home for special days like this!

The phone went and Ian answered, it was Richard from the stables just going over the plans for Cassie’s surprise, Ian knew about it so spoke in code, which Cassie thought was very strange indeed and laughed!

The next day was her birthday, and she got up at 6am as per, when not at school to go to the stables, but as she got downstairs she could see a couple of her friends were there and family members too, and this made her very happy indeed! They enjoyed the birthday breakfast, then Jane said “Come on you lot, let’s go and give Cassie her special present!

At this Cassie said “I’ve had more than enough already from all of you! What else is there to come?!

At this Connor, covered her eyes with her favourite Bandana and, she said “I’m not sure I like this??!” To which they all laughed, and went outside leading one very excited little girl to the 4×4! There were 4 other vehicles that had gone on in front one that had Connor in with his aunty!

It was a slightly different route that they hadn’t done in a very long time, as she knew most of the routes of by heart, but as they got closer she squealed “OMG I can smell and hear the sea! Is this what I think it is?! “Mum said “Not long to wait and find out now!”

They got on the beach and took of the bandana and Cassie squealed with delight as in front of them stood 11 beautiful thoroughbred white Andalusian Stallion horses her very favourite breed of all, then, she noticed her brother Connor come towards, her leading one of the horses and then as he helped her mount, he said “This is a day for dreams to come true!”

Cassie had to blink hard to stop the flow of tears after what her brother had just said!

As everybody else was helped up into the saddle on the other horses, John was at the front to start with Cassie next to him! She couldn’t stop grinning and giggling!

They started off at a trot, which then turned into a canter, when John shouted to Cassie, “Go on Cass lead the way with a gallop!

Cassie didn’t need telling twice, as it was her day and her dream coming true before her very eyes! As they were galloping along the sea edge, Cassie heard her favourite song being played from one of the 4×4’s on the beach, it was of course “White Horses” by Jackie! At this she started to cry, but smiling from ear to ear at the same time!

They had an hour with the horses, 30 minutes riding then the rest swimming in the sea on the horses bareback, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed!

When they were all back on the beach, Cassie ran round hugging everyone, saying thank you! She said to her mum and dad, I don’t know how you could manage to afford this for me, when her mum said, “Well you have John to thank for it he let us arrange all this free!” To which Cassie then flung her arms around John and gave him the biggest bear hug ever and said thank you to him!

They had a photo shoot also so that they could treasure this special memory for years to come! When they got back home and everyone had gone Cassie went to her mum, dad and brother and hugged them all with tears in her eyes as she said, this has been the best ever birthday, there will be nothing else that can get close to this right now!

As the years went by Cassie got her dream job working with these gorgeous Spanish horses, and ended up with her own competition stables, and her own loving family!

Hi my name is Karen and I live in North Devon, I will be 50 on Thursday and I share my birthday with my mum who will be 83! She is my rock and helps me a lot! I have only this year started to write and be creative with my words! I have completed a charming Christmas story called "A Wish For Christmas! About a family of Polar Bears in the North Pole! This I started a couple of years ago now, and seemed to have writers block plus some issues in my life that needed sorting out! So now I am back to my laptop writing, I find that stories that come from the heart, have the most impact on me and others! Some are from the dreams I would have liked to carry out, and others are well just fiction, it is up to the reader to work out which ones are indeed from my life
