Wet Sunday

Wet Sunday

I am sitting in the kitchen, there is such a lot to do,
I’d rather go out walking, but I would get wet through.
I could do the ironing, or maybe mop the floor,
Else I could oil the hinges, to sort that squeaking door.

I could change the linen, that is upon the bed
But no I think I’ll open draws and tidy them instead.
If I put on the washer, outside it wouldn’t dry
Like pegging it upon the line, where wind will make it fly

What about the windows, they could use a rub,
And that plant in the dining room has near outgrown its tub
I could do the vaccing or redistribute the dust
But housework’s not my priority. I’m afraid I can’t be fussed

So to hell with all this thinking, if the weather isn’t fine
Sit down, put your feet up, cheer up the day with…….wine

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
