We never met

We never met

(Blood donors)

You do not know me, yet you save me,
Give me hope, and strength to fight,
You do not stay, but yet you give me,
Part of you, part of your might.

We never met, and yet your being,
Flows within me, through my vein,
All your creation, your own life’s meaning,
Gives me the chance, to live again.

I have this chance, by your donation,
And by your act, of charity,
A gift so precious, of recreation,
Your own life’s blood, you give to me.

A simple act, yet vital to me,
Although we’ve never met before,
What you did, and what you gave me,
Bought me back, from heaven’s door.

Here my thanks, for your sweet mercy,
Here my words, seem ever small,
You do not know me, yet you save me,
All are heroes – Heroes all.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
