Waterways and Pathways

I thought I would share my poem I have entered it into a competition about canals, fingers crossed they like it. Quite fitting for this week’s photo Friday theme I thought. Please enjoy

Waterways and Pathways

It’s not a boat I hear you cry
It’s long and slim no sail to fly
On skinny waters gliding on by
A lock or two to open don’t be shy

A slow old pace a pleasant cruise
Stoke the fire take a snooze
Swing the rudder a bank to choose
A timely stop a pub for grub and booze

Tranquil waters edged by paths
Along its path butterflies flutter past
Slow the boat glides silent the craft
Kettle whistles time for tea at last

Voles from holes in banks do scurry
Grey heron motionless feet all muddy
Stout little kingfisher gone in a flurry
Damesflies dance amongst reeds sturdy

Painted lady the narrowboat eagerly glides
A home or holiday for pleasure she strives
Cruising the glory of the canal she rides
Tranquil waters and nature side by side
