Vera
Vera
Today we think of Vera Lynn,
her party it will soon begin.
One hundred years of her sweet face,
that nobody can e’er replace.
She sang about the cliffs of Dover
as spitfires in one mass flew over.
She said that we’d all meet again,
it helped block out the war time pain.
She did her bit for all our lads,
and for her time we must be glad.
She is the voice from world war two
that everybody listened to.
And now it is that long tomorrow,
so many went through pain and sorrow.
The peace they hoped for ever after
gave them belief and joy and laughter.
So thank you to our old Dame Vera,
who brought the families ever nearer.
We hope you have a happy day,
and pray that peace will come and stay.
