VE day

VE day

Put up your flags, it’s been too long
We need the world to hear our song,
When darkness tried to dim our light
We did our best to keep it bright.

Put up your flags, now long ago
We faced a very different foe.
So many had to go to war
It was our freedom they fought for.

Put up your flags, learn from the past
That generation’s fading fast
The ones who faced a different fight
The ones who walked the darkest night.

Put up your flags, we won’t forget
Their day is done, their sun has set
Our Dad’s and mums, grandparents too
That generation now are few.

Put up your flags and hear their voice
Be thankful that they gave us choice
So many died to set us free
Be grateful for your liberty.

Put up your flags, and smile and say
Thank you for this precious day.
Raise up a glass to absent friends
and know this time will also mend.
