Unwanted Guest

This happened on Sunday, not wishing harm but wondered how long they live as a bit wary of meeting him again. Imagine him scowling at me from under the settee

Unwanted Guest

I have done some spring cleaning
Yes I know it’s rather late
But weeks spent flicking dusters
Leaves your house in quite a state

So I scrubbed and I polished
Was really in fine fettle
Even scoured the white stuff
From the bottom of my kettle

Then spying umbrella stand
I really must confess
‘Twas looking very scruffy
In fact it was a mess

So when I had the brolly’s
All very neatly furled
I noticed in the base of pot
A spider neatly curled

Endowed with great long legs
An extremely rotund girth
As not fond of arachnids
I gave  him a wide berth

But as I am soft hearted
Not wanting to cause harm
I mean it isn’t his fault
He’s lacking grace and charm

So placing pot outside
Whispering hairy legs adieu
I really am delighted
To see the back of you

But was the blighter thankful
I really could have cried
With a baleful glare at me
He scurried back inside

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
