Tug of War
Tug of War…
The body is old, but the mind not yet,
With dreams of youth I can’t forget.
So what shall I do with myself today?
Stay home and knit, or go out to play?
Draw a hopscotch grid, jump and leap,
Or watch TV and fall asleep?
The spirit is willing but the body is slow,
Movement comes ‘in cameo’.
I’m still a girl who wants to run
But the legs say ‘Halt, your running’s done.’
Ambition lives, – thoughts run wild,
But sanity says ‘you’re no longer a child.’
But deep inside, I am, I am …
The Queen can keep her telegram,
I have life to live, enjoy to the hilt,
I’ll do what I want – devoid of guilt.
If I want to sing – I’ll sing out loud ‘
And dance a jig with head unbowed.
I’ll not succumb to ache or pain,
Or be satisfied with woolly brain.
Life’s worth living – so come with me —
I intend to live it to the n’th degree ..!
