Triple Trawler Tragedy 1968

Triple trawler tragedy 1968

A disaster did happen, 40 years ago
As three trawlers went down in icy seas
Fifty-eight men had lost their lives
Leaving broken hearted families and loving wives.

A triple trawler tragedy in just three weeks
The worst trawler disaster of the 20th century.
The fishing community’s heart was torn apart that day
And still we grieve for those who went away.

Those trawlers left from the Port of Hull
Men, young and old, aboard these ships.
Families and friends waved them off on the day
Many didn’t want them to go away.

For every families there was heartbreak and loss
Stories to be told, and unrelenting grief.
Many words were left unspoken
While all their families hearts were broken.

On this anniversary, let the families be strong
As they think of loved ones, who did not return
Our city will remember and stand as one
As people remember all of Hull’s sons
