The War of the World
The War of the World
The sea is getting deeper
I’m dipping in my toes
Like King Canute on my Veranda
As the skin peels off my nose
My garden is a desert
The invasion has begun
They’ll be no refugees this time
There’s nowhere for them to run
We have to turn and face the enemy
There’s no alien attack
Just look at your reflection
It’s right there laughing back
Don’t just sit there like Dorian Gray
Expect the world to wash your sins away
You have to learn to wash yourself today
And the water’s dirty anyway
Are you on their side or my side
There’s no side in between
No room for indecision
You’re dirty or you’re clean
And if the ship goes down
We’ll all go down too
And if that still can’t convince you
Then I’m fighting you
