The Visit

For Alfie  – R.I.P.

“My gladiator lay down his shield and gained his wings… absolutely heartbroken.” said his father, Tom Evans

The visit

I called today, to visit you, I didn’t stay for long,
I only bought a message, hidden in an angels song,
I came to give you all my love, if only for a while,
But I wanted you to see me, and remember how I smile.

The angels sent me to you, but so precious is my love,
That they have said I must return, to stay with those above,
Heaven is my birthright, it is my righteous place,
But I wanted you to see me, and my sweet angelic face.

Do not grieve because I left you, it was not my place to be,
My place is with the father, he has chosen that for me,
But although I am not with you, even though I am unseen,
Each time you hear a ‘whisper’, you will know that I have been.

‘Night God bless’  xx

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
