The Unsuccessful Diet

Day One!

Well it started very well with my positive attitude,
my diet had commenced this day, no cakes or fattening food.

I knuckled down to healthy stuff, like celery and brown rice.
no scones with jam, or gooey buns, those things that taste so nice.

Beige was off the menu now; only leafy greens would do,
no longer chips or fries for tea, just lentils in a stew.

Salads would become my friend, no biscuit jar in sight,
the notion of a chocolate bar, just distant snack delight.

Later that night!

So now it gets to ten o’clock and all was going well,
the muesli bars have been consumed including any shell.

Determined, and most resolute that I’d turned a brand new leaf,
‘This diet is a doddle now’, I said through gritted teeth.

The following day!

When the hall phone rang I took the call, my friend just called to say,
“There’s a splendid delicatessen and it’s opening today”.

With the promise of a fresh cream cake and coffee, freshly ground,
I didn’t have a second thought and didn’t hang around.

On the dead of twelve I sat right down to a cake with oozing cream,
the diet was a distant thought, no longer a pipe dream.

As I scoffed the cake and slurped my drink I felt a guilty pang,
but even that was futile now compared to my meringue.

The moral of this little tale is as clear as it can be,
do not decline a kind invite to a scrumptious, fine, cream tea!

Yum Yum
