The Surprise
The Surprise
Hey what’s that I eagerly said
As you hastily crept into the garden shed
Is it a present just for me
Oh Daddy please won’t you let me see
You’ll have to wait as tomorrow’s the day
He whispered through the open doorway
With peeping eyes I tried to spy
Off you pop now the time will fly
Up with the lark a shake of his arm
Happy birthday to me now can I see
Skipping and jumping into the garden
From behind the shed door mum’s old cardigan
Big brown eyes and soft floppy ears
I cannot contain my floods of tears
Just for me a puppy all soft and cuddly
What a surprise she’ll be my best buddy
What will I call her I run through some names
She thinks it’s funny to play silly games
Running around with my shoe in her mouth
Clanging the doors as she chases about
Black white and fluffy a tail like a whip
I know I shout I’ll call my dog Pip
Best buddies forever life is more fun
We grow together take walks in the sun
Best ever present ‘thank you daddy’ I shout
As I run round the garden with Pip in and out
From morning til night we share our time
Nothing more special than a pup who is mine
