The secret to doing
The secret to doing
The secret to doing..is starting,
So my grand-dad used to say.
And I have to say I agree with him,
And it happens..every day.
The secret to doing..is starting,
And starting’s the difficult bit.
But I’ve found that it really works for me,
Like a fire taking hold when it’s lit.
For me it starts in the morning,
When I awake..warm and cosy in bed.
I’ll have five minutes more, I tell myself,
Then I remember what grand-dad said.
So I throw back the duvet with gusto,
Sit up..swing my feet to the floor.
I sit for a moment and ponder,
Oh I’d kill for just five minutes more.
But the secret to doing..is starting,
So l wash and I quickly get dressed.
And over breakfast, I look at my list,
Thinking, which job to start..would be best.
Well..the secret to doing..is starting,
So self discipline must come in to play.
Not finding reasons, to put things off,
Or leaving jobs for another day.
So I roll up my sleeves..and get started,
And the hours just seem to fly by.
I get a growing sense of achievement,
As grand-dads rule..I apply.
The secret to doing..is starting,
I’ve found this to be..oh so true.
Be it menial tasks..or large projects,
When you start..you just carry on through.
So thank you grand-dad.. for your wise words,
They’ve really been helpful to me.
It’s true..The secret to doing..is starting,
It made me start this poem….you see!
