The Sea
This descriptive poem was written by Irene Kerr about her passion to be beside the sea.
The Sea
While I live on the prairies
A wonderful place to be
I yearn for all things nautical
Relating to the sea
I feel the need to visit
The briny oceans’ shore
To see familiar seascapes
I’ve often seen before
By inlet arm or harbour
Regardless of the tide
I feel the power embrace me
Igniting my inside
To sail upon the open sea
Or dance upon the sand
Dive into the whirling surf
Before it meets dry land
To swim in the cool water
Float gently to and fro
A memory of motion
Once felt in utero
The fresh and breezy salty air
Brings all these thoughts to mind
Releases the stress of city life
Entreats us to unwind
My dream’s to live beside the sea
Until my life net’s cast
Then at the setting of the sun
Set sail for home at last
