The King
Here is another sentimental poem by Tracey Curtis ….
THE KING
We’ve seen so many singers
in many shapes and form,
But one stood out, amongst the crowd
and took the world by storm.
This boy was born in Mississippi
a country boy to start,
But as he started growing
it was music in his heart.
His mothers name was Gladys
and Vernon was his dad,
They didn’t have much money then,
but made do with what they had.
He often went to church
which inspired him even then,
He did his first performance
when he reached the age of 10.
He sang a song, about a dog
as a cowboy they did dress him,
Do you know who he is?
By now you should have guessed him.
He made it big, he sang his songs
he was really in demand,
He brought his mum a Cadillac
and a house he called Graceland.
He had the looks, he had the voice
his mum was proud, no doubt,
He moved his hips like no one else
and made the girls scream out.
His clothes were quite amazing
the outfits that he wore,
Whenever he was on that stage
the crowd would shout for more.
It really was so very sad
the day he passed away,
There were so many broken hearts
on that dreadful day.
Thousands lined the streets,
they just stood still and waited,
Everyone was crying
they were all so devastated.
It cant be true, you’ve got it wrong
the people started saying,
Some were dropping to their knees
and then just started praying.
Then it was official
the notice was read out,
ELVIS PRESLEY passed away
with that, their was no doubt.
He’s gone, but what a legend
he knew just how to sing,
His name was Elvis Presley
but we knew him as THE KING.
