The fun of yoga
The fun of yoga
We trickle in, in twos and threes
With aching backs and creaking knees
Stretch out, relax, and peace descends
An hour of torture is about to commence
Hatha, Karma, chakras and asanas
It sounds as though we’ve gone bananas
Up dog, down dog, cobra and crow
Locust, fish, tree, archer and bow
Forward fold, let go, let your arms dangle
Now twist yourself into the Triangle
Just when you think it can’t get any worse
We’re told to do the Triangle in reverse!
Then we have to do a spinal twist
Sit up straight, don’t lean on your wrist
Left leg straight, right knee bent
Twist around to your full extent
Now for the neck, we like this, it’s nice
Completely relax and close your eyes
Tilt your head to the left and to the right
Backwards, forwards—those muscles are tight
Next comes a balance—this one’s the Eagle
My version of this looks more like a Seagull
Standing on one leg, open-handed
Falling, falling, this eagle has landed!
Have we finished yet– are we all done?
We’re promised this is the very last one
Swivel your hips just like Elvis
Feel that working your pelvis
Lying down, feeling warm and cosy
Blankets, tops and socks, all toasty
We eagerly wait with trepidation
To hear the magic word “Relaxation”
Why do we do it—think we’re mad?
We have to admit it’s not all bad
After many years we can assure ‘er
We all love our guru—aka The Fuhrer!!
And so endeth today’s lesson
Can’t wait for our next session
We say Om Shanti and Namaste
Tomorrow is another fun day
