The Eyes of a Child

The Eyes of a Child

I still try to see, through the eyes of a child,
Who wants to see peace, not a World running wild,
I look with confusion and I try hard to see,
If there is a future for children like me?

I see at the moment a World troubled so,
Where mankind and like have nowhere to go,
I see at the moment a World full of greed,
But mankind and like just have nowhere to feed?

I wonder what future holds for us all,
Is it now that we witness our own mad downfall,
Is this where the spiral begins our descent,
And have we long forgotten what charity meant?

I believe our generation has broken our trust,
We are selfish and greedy we grind life to dust,
We consume all before us and we leave misery,
And what will be left here, for children like me?

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
