The coming of Autumn
The coming of Autumn
Beech mast crunches beneath the foot
Spent leaves rustle in their protest
Shades of brown, green mixed in
Falling to earth the trees undressed
The breeze, cool now that autumn feel
The forerunner of a winter dark
Raised collars on thicker coats
A preamble for the winter stark
Autumn is beautiful not all gloom
The golds, the greens, burnished copper
The dewy webs, birds migrating
Geese in flight, a real showstopper
The air is cleaner, the grass is greener
The heat of summer gone
No barbeque smoke to invade the senses
The cutting of grass nearly done
Golden sun visits an autumn day
Warming through the morning’s mist
No strident shadows just cosy glows
Dew soaked flowers gently kissed
Gossamer threads from leaf to twig
Finer than a fairy’s hair
Look around at autumn’s glory
Look close, enjoy, it’s there
