Supermarket match

Supermarket match

I thought  I’d go to Morrison’s, to find myself a mate,
I’d heard that if I walked the aisles my chances would be great
So I chose a wire basket then stood perusing peas,
Hoping none would notice I’d a wobble in my knees

Alas I got no offers… except that two for one
Left alone and wishing that I had never come
I thought my empty basket told I was solo and untaken
But in my sad deductions, I was very much mistaken

I lurked by the bananas. I hovered by the cheese
All alone and friendless…. no one to even tease
Not a soul of interest to ease my sorry plight,
None there under eighty to take me out tonight

Oh drat it, can’t be bothered, I’ll just get a box of chocs
With a bottle of fine brandy, another night in with the box.

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
