Summer on a Thursday
Summer on a Thursday
Summer on a Thursday, on an April day,
Doesn’t happen often, seems to keep away,
Hyacinths in flower, daffodils in bloom,
Summer on a Thursday? Seems to come too soon.
Bees amid the pollen, Blackbirds sing their song,
Summer on a Thursday will not linger long,
The sun has come to greet us as springtime now appears,
But Summer on a Thursday will only end in tears.
Gardeners are working ground to till and sow,
Soil is warm and welcome stirring deep below,
Tulips stately waving in a summers heat,
But Summer on a Thursday, will beat a fast retreat.
Summer on a Thursday, will disappear at will,
And leave a deeper longing with many gaps to fill,
Hold back from your longing to plant upon your land,
For Summer on a Thursday will bite back at your hand.
