Stand Strong

This poem written by Martin Silvester has a very topical theme in these current turbulent times we find ourselves in ….

Stand Strong

When I awake tomorrow..will the world be just the same,
Will mankind still be pointing fingers..finding someone else to blame.
What’s done is done, we can’t go back, to when the problems all began,
Problems that were mainly caused..by mans inhumanity..to man.

Looking back through history..I’m not liking what I’ve found,
So many innocent people..now laying in the ground.
Selfish greed and grasping hands..no matter who it harms,
Lives torn apart..year after year..by senseless force of arms.

Even now it doesn’t stop..there’s sorrow everywhere,
There are those who seem determined..to hate and kill and tear.
Cowards in the shadows..using bombs and guns and knives,
Scum who are incapable..of leading normal lives.

Each step mankind moves forward..leads to two steps in reverse,
Spending billions on technology..but can’t afford to pay a nurse.
Many countries in this fragile world..have problems that need mending,
Is it too much for us to want..one day..a happy ending!

All most people want to do..is live happily side by side,
With room in their hearts for love and laughter..plus a little helping of pride.
To feel the warmth of the sun on their face..to see their loved ones smile,
To have a home in their comfort zone..where peace can rest for a while.

We owe it to our young ones..now in their early days of life,
To make the world a better place..with no more war and strife.
So we must not let evil win the day..turn our backs on fear and hate,
Stand strong..with love and understanding..before it is too late!

Not a lot to tell...just an ordinary man...always loved writing but never had the time until now...hope I've got a few years left to write about the million things I would like to get down on paper be it in poetry form or just plain old story telling. Just in case anyone would like me to come along to their group and read a few of my poems live..I would be happy to do so within the confines of Kent or Sussex...I would just need to cover my time and petrol costs...plus a cup of tea and a biscuit. Just email [email protected] To answer some of your questions= ex-army..ex -jackeroo...ex-builder..ex-quite a few other things..still rocking...married...2 + 3 children...7 grandchildren...retired...love custard creams. I have now published my first collection of poems which are now available on Amazon under the title of..LAST APPLE ON THE TREE. The book consists of twenty seven poems covering a wide range of topics and emotions. My second book has just been published and is called A BREEZE IN THE WILLOWS, also available on Amazon. I hope that everyone will get as much enjoyment reading them, as I did writing them.
