St George’s Day

St George’s Day

English and proud today, shout it out loud,
Proud of our country are we,
A strong independent land, free of the tyrant’s hand,
A bond of a strong family.

Smite at the traitor’s face, drown them in dark disgrace,
Those who would scorn at our day,
Hold out your standard high, a banner to touch the sky,
Proclaim this the ‘Englishman’s day’.

Trust in your fellow man, always do what you can,
So that peace and goodwill may abide,
But just for this one day here, let English strength appear,
And declare this with all English pride.

‘HAPPY SAINT GEORGE’S DAY  – BE ENGLISH AND PROUD!’

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
