See the Locomotive with me
This poem was written by Tracey Curtis and takes us back to a time gone by where the excitement of waiting for a steam train was something special …
See the Locomotive with me
I would like you to imagine
So let your mind go blank
I’m lying down upon the grass
On a daisy covered bank
I can feel the summer heat
As it’s warming up my skin
I can feel a light cool breeze
From the little shade I’m in
There’s buttercups and daisies
And tall green blades of grass
I’m watching all the dandelion clocks
Floating as they pass
I can hear the branches creaking
As they’re swaying in the trees
I can see the colored butterflies
And hear the buzzing bees
I’ll tell you why I’m lying there
As I haven’t give a motive
I’m lying on the daisy bank
Waiting for the locomotive
And then I hear a rumble
It’s the sound I’ve waited for
It’s that old locomotive
The steam train four o four
I can see it in the distance
As it’s chuffing down the line
It’s really old and out of date
But still it sounds so fine
I have a special hanky
That I was given as a kid
And there I sit upon the bank
Just like I always did
It’s getting really close now
So I stand up off the ground
I’m getting quite exited
As I hear the engines sound
Then the train comes into view
And I’m as happy as can be
So I wave my little hanky
And they wave theirs back at me
It really makes my day it does
It’s my love it’s what I do
And as I wave my last goodbye
I’ll wave goodbye to you
Goodbye
