SEE IT..LIKE IT..BUY IT.

This is for all the trolley pushers like me who provide back up for the front line troops (wives) in many shops throughout the land, despite getting the feeling sometimes that we are more of a hinderance than a help!

SEE IT..LIKE IT..BUY IT.

I wandered lonely as a cloud..around the super store,
My trolley gliding silently..across the polished floor.
With heavy heart I looked ahead..The clothing section loomed,
With gritted teeth I caught her up..I knew that I was doomed.

A double row of hanging rails..a real Aladdin’s cave,
My wife switched on her browsing mode..She left me with a wave.
The big SALE signs were everywhere..urging every one to spend,
So I stood and lurked as usual..by the knickers on the end.

The clock ticked on remorselessly..as I stood and watched my wife,
Shopping really was..I thought..a large part of her life.
Men tend to shop quite differently..we have no browsing mode,
See it-like it-BUY IT!..seems to be our shopping code.

Reduced and half price offers..or..buy one get one free,
Will not cut much ice at all..for men on a shopping spree.
A woman reads the labels.. Weighs up pros and cons and price,
A man will whisk goods off the shelf..because the packaging looks nice.

Speed is of the essence..men will always shop quite fast,
Overtaking browsers..thinking YES!!..as they zoom past.
The trouble is with speedy..is that when the shoppings done,
Men miss all the special offers..including two for one.

So as I stood there thinking..by the knickers on the end,
I realised that women have..the perfect shopping blend-
Of thrift and perseverance..plus an eye for the best price,
Shopping takes a little longer..when buying clothes, or even rice.

But one thing always puzzles me..and I’d like to know the reason why,
My wife speeds up significantly..until the tool aisle’s safely by.
It’s the same when in the high street..as we approach a tackle shop,
Speed up mode is switched on..there’s no way we’re going to stop.

When standing patiently by a fitting room..I feel quite out of place,
But it’s worth the wait to see the joy..sometimes..on my wife’s face.
So having thought about it..I have to say that I’m impressed,
When it comes to going shopping..women are..simply the best.

Not a lot to tell...just an ordinary man...always loved writing but never had the time until now...hope I've got a few years left to write about the million things I would like to get down on paper be it in poetry form or just plain old story telling. Just in case anyone would like me to come along to their group and read a few of my poems live..I would be happy to do so within the confines of Kent or Sussex...I would just need to cover my time and petrol costs...plus a cup of tea and a biscuit. Just email [email protected] To answer some of your questions= ex-army..ex -jackeroo...ex-builder..ex-quite a few other things..still rocking...married...2 + 3 children...7 grandchildren...retired...love custard creams. I have now published my first collection of poems which are now available on Amazon under the title of..LAST APPLE ON THE TREE. The book consists of twenty seven poems covering a wide range of topics and emotions. My second book has just been published and is called A BREEZE IN THE WILLOWS, also available on Amazon. I hope that everyone will get as much enjoyment reading them, as I did writing them.
