Remote!
Remote!
T’was easy in the good old days
To hear and watch the news.
Press a button or flick a switch
Nothing more to do.
But today it’s far more difficult
to access the news in a trice.
Where’s the controller – that magical thing
That makes our life easy and nice?
We search in the lounge
Down the sides of the chairs
In cupboards and drawers –
It just isn’t there!
We search in all boxes
bags, buckets and shoes.
In wardrobes and pockets
On top of things too.
The panic is rising
And cushions are scattered
Saucepans go flying
And pillows are battered.
The clock in the hallway
ticks towards six
And we are all feeling
a little bit sick.
”The news will be on in a minute” says mum
”Where’s that thingummy
Someone must know where it’s gone?”
But alas – though we search
Up and down, here and there,
We just cannot find the appliance.
”Oh great”sighs dad
From his cosy armchair,
”The amazing wonders of science.”
By the time we work out the TV controls,
News fades to a distant note.
I realise now in the cold light of day
Why that ‘thing’ is called a remote!
